Ms. Sarita A. Rhonemus (Ed.S., A.B.D.) serves as the Educational Outreach Director at Bluefield State College in Bluefield, West Virginia, with responsibility for the federally funded TRiO Educational Opportunity Center assisting first generation, low-income adults with admissions and financial aid. Rhonemus currently holds the office of the West Virginia TRiO Association President and by position sits on the Mid-Eastern Association of Educational Opportunity Program Personnel Board. She is also the executive director of the West Virginia Access Center for Higher Education, Inc., the first successful replication of the Ohio Appalachian Center for Higher Education (OACHE) model. In addition, Rhonemus consults with the Appalachian Regional Commission to provide training and support to the ARC-funded replication centers in Kentucky, Mississippi, Ohio, Tennessee, North Carolina, Virginia, and Georgia. Having grown up in rural, economically distressed McDowell County, West Virginia, Rhonemus fully understands the barriers associated with postsecondary education access. She entered college as a non-traditional, first-generation student, low-income student and after gaining confidence in her own abilities, completed a baccalaureate in teacher education and taught in the public school system for three years. After two years as the Educational Outreach Counselor at Bluefield State College she was promoted to program director. Rhonemus later completed her masters, and education specialist degree at Marshall University. And, she is currently a scholar practitioner now in her dissertation phase at Capella University pursuing a Ph.D. in higher education leadership.
