Dr. Thomas Evans is a native of Monongah, WV and attended North Marion High School. He pursued biological engineering at Louisiana State University and also was a member of the LSU baseball team. Evans transferred to Wichita State University to finish undergraduate degrees in Mechanical Engineering and Mathematics, while also participating in an undergraduate research apprenticeship program with Boeing Aerospace Corporation.

Evans returned to West Virginia and entered graduate school in Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering and finished a doctorate degree in 2009. He started employment as a mechanical engineer working for NASA at the West Virginia Robotic Technology Center in 2010 and took over the leadership role of the WVRTC the following year.

In addition to leading the WVRTC, Evans holds a research associate professor position in the West Virginia University Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering Department. He is actively engaged in student mentorship programs and has advised 59 graduate students within the College of Engineering. Of those, 17 have completed master degree programs and 8 have completed doctoral degrees.

Evans’s interests include spending time with his family and friends, fishing WV’s streams and lakes, and traveling for vacation and leisure.
