Cindy lives in Fayetteville with her husband and three children. She has lived in West Virginia for more than 20 years when her love for the outdoors and whitewater brought her to the area. She graduated from Iowa State University in 1990 and graduated with a Master of Science in Physical Therapy from University of Miami in 1993. Upon moving to West Virginia, she was the rehabilitation director and provided developmental care support in the NICU at Raleigh General Hospital. She has worked in the West Virginia Birth to Three program for more than 16 years and is passionate about advocating for the children born drug exposed and impacted by the opioid crisis. She also provides school-based therapy services in Clay County Schools. She opened her own therapy company, Powell Therapy Services, in 2009. She is on the board of directors of the nonprofit group “To the Moon and Back” and has recently started the West Virginia chapter. Cindy and this organization is committed to providing caregiver support and training to those raising the children born drug exposed. She is an active member in her local community and a board member for the Fayette County Health Department and serves on the Fayette County Substance Abuse Task Force. She is active in volunteering with Team Rubicon doing disaster response work. In her free time, Cindy enjoys camping with her family, stand up paddle boarding, and hiking with her dogs.
