Julia Hamilton is a West Virginia native, born and raised in Parkersburg. In 2007, she relocated to Morgantown to pursue a degree through West Virginia University and achieved a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology & Women’s Studies in 2010. Through an internship with the Kaleidoscope Community Learning Centers in 2010, Julia changed career paths and entered the field of education, becoming the Extended Day Director for Monongalia County Schools in 2014. While working with Monongalia County Schools, Julia has developed and fine tuned summer programming that spans all grades, K-12, at no charge to participating students. With programs ranging from coding to culinary arts, martial arts to mosaic art, and graphic design to game theory, programs have been created to fit all interests and age groups! These offerings have caught the eye of parents across the country, and have brought in participants from Delaware, Illinois, Florida, and Virginia.
In her “off time”, Julia spends time with her partner and foster daughter, and advocates at the state level for foster care reform. As a newly elected member of the Democratic County Executive Committee, and as a board member for local advocacy groups like Mountaineers for Progress and Morgantown NOW, Julia also spends many hours organizing actions and efforts around reproductive health, education, and social services.
