“If someone tells you you can’t make a difference, it’s because they’re afraid you will.”

Julia Hamilton is a West Virginia native, born and raised in Parkersburg. In 2007, she relocated to Morgantown to pursue higher education at West Virginia University and achieved a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology & Women’s Studies. Through an internship with the Kaleidoscope Community Learning Centers, Julia changed career paths and entered the field of education, becoming the Extended Day Director for Monongalia County Schools in 2014. During her time with Mon County Schools, Julia has developed and fine-tuned more than sixty summer program offerings that span grades K-12, at no charge to participating students. These offerings have caught the eye of parents across the country, and have brought in participants from Delaware, Illinois, Florida, and Virginia.

In her free time, Julia spends time with her partner and foster daughter, and advocates at the state level for progressive issues. As a newly elected member of the Democratic County Executive Committee, and a board member for local advocacy groups like Mountaineers for Progress and Morgantown NOW, Julia spends many hours organizing actions and efforts around reproductive health, education, foster care reform, and social services.
