Doug is originally from Charleston, West Virginia and has lived in West Virginia most of his life. In 2003, he graduated from West Virginia University with a BA in mathematics. While in his undergraduate program, he competed on WVU’s debate team and worked as an undergraduate teaching assistant in the math department. Over the next two years, he completed his MS in mathematics while teaching as a graduate assistant and serving as an assistant coach on the debate team.
In 2005, Doug traveled to Atlanta, Georgia to teach math and coach debate at Pace Adademy. He returned to West Virginia University in 2006 to join the mathematics faculty as a teaching instructor and has taught there since. He teaches mathematics courses to undergraduates in courses from developmental mathematics to multivariable calculus and differential equations.
Since 2008, Doug has been a faculty member at the West Virginia Governor’s Honors Academy, a summer academy for West Virginia’s top rising high school seniors. He is currently the faculty representative on the Governor’s Schools Advisory Council. He also serves as the head coach of the West Virginia National Math Team and serves on the board of the West Virginia State Mathematics Field Day.
He currently lives in Morgantown and travels frequently to Charleston. Outside of work, he enjoys spending time with his family and friends, traveling both in and out of West Virginia, and playing racquetball on occasion. He loves West Virginia and is a big fan of West Virginia University sports.
